Tab troubles
« on: January 19, 2008, 12:32:00 PM »
Hey Gang,
well, these past couple months I have been using the cordovan tab from 3 rivers.  I like the tab and it's durability, but I have one issue with it...the elastic finger cord.  When I shoot the cord(even with very tight adjustment) does not sufficiently keep the tab it place and it tends to gravitate down my finger.  Is there a way to remedy this or are there any other cordovan leater tabs out there that don't do this?  Perhaps one with a hole through the tab itself?  Thanks for the help, Matt

I use a cavalier tab with cordovan and has a finger cord but not elastic..after I got it broke in to shooting I tend to leave it loose now for comfort and it works great

I think that I have the same tab as you and haven't had that problem. For me the elastic would creep and get longer...cured that with a tiny spot of silicone seal at the location where the elastic serpentines through the tab. Maybe a little spot of silicone goop would leave a tacky pad for your finger? I like the tab when it stays put.

May seem like a silly question, but are you shooting with a deep hook.  I have seen several other shooting a lightweight tab with a fingertip hold, "loose" the tab upon release.

I actually prefer a very loose cord on my tabs, but then i shoot a pretty deep hook. I also trim my tabs to be as small as possible for the purpose.

My favorite tab is a Bateman cordovan tab,it has a finger hole and a leather backing. It cost $10 to $12,I've been shooting my last one for 3 years.

I like the Black Widow cordovan tab. It has a velcro strap and doesn't move much if any after dropping the string.

The tab MJB showed a picture of looks like a Screaming Eagle tab like Brunner used to sell. It is all I use.  They last forever, but I have a couple of extras in case they ever become unavailable.  Probably Screaming Eagle still sells them but I think I had to call to order rather than ordering directly off the web site.
And in the end of our exploring we shall return to the place where we started and know that place for the first time.
