I have always hand straitened arrow but have read about using a hook or screw eye. How do you do it? Pros and cons?
Thanks
Mitch

I used to hook staighten my shafts but now I use the Ace model. It's easier and does a better job (IMO) plus you can use it on finished arrows without harm to the finish.

I have and use both type arrow straightners. Using the hook type on finished arrows....try spraying the area you are going to straighten with furniture wax/polish....then use the hook. Doesn't mar the finish near as bad as doing it without.
As far as the Ace model ...it's the best thing invented since the wheel.

You can go to Lowes, Home Depot, etc. , go to the electrical section with all the spools of wire and they sell electrial grounding wire...I think it's like 2 guage copper....cut about a six inch piece of it off and drill a hole in a large wood dowell, epoxying the wire in place, then bend it around a piece of pipe about an inch or two in diamater.
to protect the finish, I use a little bit of Pam...protects it just fine

Mitch: There's a tutorial somewhere on this site that explains how to straighten with a hook/side of a screwdriver as well as the palm of one's hand. I generally use the palm of my hand for the big bends in the center of the shaft and the ACE roller for those tight bends near either end.
