Snap Crackle Pop
« on: February 23, 2008, 03:57:00 AM »
So here I am, looking at all the threads about beautiful knives, and I decide to make my own. I obtain some saw blades, get set up in the garage, and start to cutting. All of the sudden, flash, bang, smoke, burn, there goes my Dremel. So my question is, which one of you is buying me a new one? It's your fault for making me envious, so who's footing the bill? RGK, my money is on you!

You've reached an enviable plateau in knife building, buying new equiptment!  Now you can research, investigate, price and purchase said new equiptment.  Bully for you mate!  :clapper:    :biglaugh:

How used was the dremel? I used my dremel to finish my basement! plus cut out knife profiles and such with no problems,
which cutting disk were you using?

That's just it, the Dremel was fairly new. I was using regular abrasive cutoff blades, and I wasn't pushing it that hard or running it that fast. I even took a break to let it cool... I don't like plateaus, they are expensive!

dont feel bad .
only a minor set back.
there are some heavy duty large dremels out there
that will take  cutting out blades for a long time for about 50.00 to 60.00$

heck just yesterday i spent all after noon cutting out 2 blanks doing file work roughing in
the edge . both cracked in the oil quench
was it time wasted ?
no i just learned krome edge saw blades dont work
well for me as knife blanks

I have bought/used/worn out many dremels.  I found I like the craftsman brand better, and I found that I use the variable speed very little.  The simple single speed for about 40 bucks seems to work best.
And the dremel will be the least expensive of your power tool assortment!

Well, according to the folks at Dremel, the max charge to repair it is 42.00 plus 4.00 shipping, so I think I will be getting it to them in the morning. If only I could figure out a way for this to be a warranty issue... My wife was brushing her teeth with it and the dern thing just blew up on her!
