Opinions on Black Widow TF
« on: January 22, 2008, 12:09:00 AM »
Looking at getting a short recurve for blind use and looking hard at a 56" BW TFII for my 27" draw around 50 lbs. You folks that have one or have shot one, I would love to hear your opinions. I'll test drive one before buying but any impressions are welcome.

Regards

Definitely my favorite Widow.I have a 60" TFV,51#@26"(ironwood)that I shoot more than my PSAX or PLX.The TF/PTF's are some sweet shooters and if you're gonna buy new,I'd go with the ironwood

I agree with Jim.  My PTFX is my favorite Widow, and my favorite bow (and I have a few Widows and a few other recurves hanging on the wall  :D  ).

I have owned at least 4 different models of Black Widows, The TF is my favorite. Lighter and more graceful design than the other models and shoots just as well.

I had a Tf11 46#@28" 58" and i loved it! Somebody smacked me with a stupid stick and i sold it in the spring of 06. I wish now that i had it back...

That was one fine little bow, it shot just as good as an sa with less weight in the hand.

Widows best performer as far as concerned. It is definitely their quickest and quietest. I just sold one because it was abit to heavy and a bit long for me at 62"s. I would love to find one around 51-53#s and 60"s or less. great bow, you will love it! Shawn

I am lucky enough to own two TFVs ... Both 60" ... one 48# @ 26", the other 51# @ 26". Great Bows! Won't sell one to Shawn for all the tea in China.  ;)

Do you guys think that the 56" is too short for a 27" draw, or should I go with the 58"? I've never owned a curve that short. My Palmer and Great Plains are both 60". Thanks for all of the responses.

I shot a 56" SA for years at my 27 1/2" draw, with no problems.   The TF and SA very similar.   I now shoot a 58" PTFX, but my next will be a 56"

Had a 60# TFIII. Beautiful to look at, Beautiful to shoot. Go for it.

I just got done test driving a PTFV last week.  It was indeed a sweet shooter.  The Asbell grip seems super easy to just point at the target with little effort.  My bow hand just naturally aims at the spot I'm looking at.

That being said, I placed an order for a PAX because I feel like MAYBE a little more weight in the riser may quiet/stabilize the bow.  Of course this is just conjecture.  I have heard many guys say that all the Widow models shoot about the same for them.

Can't go wrong with a Widow.  If they weren't a great bow, they would not have such a following.
