Beautiful work Chris

Here is an instructional site that really helps those who may be interested in giving it a whirl on a sheath of their own if I may post here (not to hijack Chris's thread) just has lots of great info in all kinds of styled work for sheaths etc who appreciate it as much as I do.

varmint, yep that's mammoth tusk from russia.  it's a bit pricey for a good set of scales with some good crackle in them.

shell, that's the build a long page i used.  i tried for hours to get the single quill line technique down but just couldn't pull it off.  couldn't get the quill to roll over like on the page.  this was my first attempt at quill work and i learned a ton.  the first is to keep the runs narrow.  i went way to wide when i started but it got easier the more narrow it got toward the tip.  the zig zag technique and its variations is simple enough will satisfy all my needs for now.  i also attempted to dye these but they didn't come out as dark as i hoped.  i just ordered a bunch of professionally dye quills and i can't wait to get to work with them.  i have a lot of buf skin to quill and a lot of knives that need a sheath.
