cutting saw blade question
« on: June 02, 2008, 01:20:00 PM »
I picked up a 29" sawmill blade this weekend and may have a line on a couple bigger ones in the near future.

My question is how do you guys/gals get them into workable pieces?  I've got a 4 1/2" angle grinder at my disposal, but is that the best way to do it?  I've looked at a plasma torch but that is out of my league at this time.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Nick

I use an acetylene torch and then grind down to the profile with my grinder.

Bill, any fancy training needed with the acetylene torch?  Never used one before.

Moving to Alaska in a few weeks, probably will need to wait to get one of those

It is not fast, but I cut a zillion blades with a die grinder when that was all I had.

Dang Dan you must have alot of blanks laying around if you cut a zillion LOL.

I'll use what I have also, just wondering what other folks might be using.  Gonna wait til I'm sure this new hobby is one that I will stick with.  But I will say I am enjoying this and am looking at my things with a much more critical eye as things go along.

I use a 4 1/2" grinder with 1/16" cutting wheels. Works very well. Grinder cost me less than $20 at harbor freight. Skippy
