Rain Gear advice?

For lite and packable, I like the new Down Pour rain gear from Sitka Gear. I field tested it this past season while mule deer hunting out west as well as tree stand hunting for whitetails. I would get it a size or two larger if you plan to wear over wool or other bulky sweater. It is pretty quiet for rain gear and has vents you can open in the pant legs if the rain subsides etc. Tough material that stretches as well. Mike

Wool is where it's at, but for heavier / longer-lasting rain, G. Fred recommends a poncho.   You stay dry and ventilated and can whip it over your shoulder (a la Clint Eastwood) to get it out of the way if/when you want to shoot.

That being said, I'm not a big fan of hunting in any rain worse than a bit of a drizzle.  I'd hate to plug a nice deer and have the rain wash away it's trail on me.

I love my Cabela's MT050 packable rain gear.  Used it for the last 5 years in rain and snow.  As durable as it gets.

Longbow rookie, I have hunted over a dozen counties in Illinois. Me and my brother found a good spot and bought some land there about 5 years ago. Those bucks came off our land.

I hate to shoot something in a down pour as well but often times as soon as the rain stops the woods come alive with activity. Having good rain gear on a wilderness trip is very important. I usually only pack one set of cloths, so I try not to get soaked to the bone.

Good point about hunting heavy rain.  I was thinking more about moving to and from camp or being up the stand and wanting to wait out a nasty storm.

Good stuff Herdbull!  Land will be the biggest challenge for my first season of hunting.  I have permission from a good buddy of mine that I think will work out well but out here it's tough.  Over development is ruining the place!
