St Judes custom sheath done
« on: June 28, 2008, 03:14:00 PM »
I thought I'd post a couple pictures of Chris Surtees gift to his dad Larry. Chris was the winner of my custom sheath aution for St Judes and a great pardner for doing something for the kids. Thanks a bunch Chris,

Here's what Larry ordered, he wanted something with a whitetail on it. The belt loop is 1 1/4 inches to fit his 1" belt and a crossdraw. It's a lined sheath and has a total of 6 peices of leather in it.

I had fun making it, don't get to do many of these due to the saddle backlog. Good luck to you Larry, hope this see's lots of use in the whitetail woods.

Oh,almost forgot. I braided a kangaroo fob on the knife handle to help getting it past the lock in the welt till things break in.

Absolutely stunning! Can not thank you enough for the sheath. It was my pleasure to partner up with you to help the kids. The sheath was truly a special Father's Day gift.

My Dad will be on a little later. He is taking care of my Grandma right now.

If Robin offers this up again next year everyone better be prepared to come big. I have plenty of knives that could use a awesome sheath to call home.

This is outstanding!  Robin (Roughcountry) is a true gentleman, and it was my honor to be able to work with him.

I keep going back and visiting the pics.  Robin, thanks just doesn't seem like enough.

Chris, thank you -- you're one terrific son!  I can't wait until you get your leave period from Iraq, and we get in our annual father-son-grandson hunt.

Thanks all, nice to get to work on something different every so often.

Larry, beleive me, The honor was all mine.

Dave, if you could only see some of my first work. Pretty bad. I worked for years trying to get leather gear the most funtional I could possibly get. When I had something real close to what I wanted, then I started trying to dress it up.

I like wet formed stuff, it's real hard to form stamped leather this small, so the liners and back of the sheath are wet formed and the front will follow with time.

My uncle used to say " the finish work is only 10% of a project, but makes the difference in whether people will like it"

There's folks in leatherwork that are lots better than I am, I think it's good to have a higher benchmark to strive for.
