Small Anvil...

Hey all, Been reading forum for awhile thought I'd like to try making knives..I found a small anvil today..I'm guessing 50-60#.. will I be able to make knives and maybe small hawks with this size anvil?

I like them a little heavier, but it should work. I'd use small hammers on it though. No bigger than 1 1/2 lbs. Anchor it to the stump good. Be watching auctions and estate sales for a nice 150 pounder. Lin

I've been using a 110 pounder for several years now, and I'd love to have one a good bit bigger.  Mine has good rebound and works great for forging blade profiles and bevels in flat stock with smaller hammers (less than 3 or 4 lb.s).  It tends to bounce a lot when I use a heavier hammer.  Still, 60 pounds is better than no anvil at all.  Just be sure to anchor it to something heavy.
