Here is one I did for an old friend's son for his Christmas present. Dad picked out the wood and I put it all together. Forged from 1084, 9.5" oal, blade is 4.75" tip to guard. Gard is nickel with spacers.

I guess it kinda does look like maple, but the picture does not do this piece of wood justice. It is one of the nicest chunks of wood I have seen! I would like to keep this one for myself!!
