Question for Howard Hill Owners...
« on: January 24, 2008, 06:41:00 PM »
I have a Hill that I'd like to turn into a takedown.  Anyone ever have a Bow Bolt takedown feature installed on an existing one-piece Hill bow?

I've seen them on other grip styles but never on a Hill.  Seems like it would make a good system...assuming it can be done ATF.

It probably be cheaper to buy a Hill take-down than convert yours......stabow

I don't think the Hill riser is wide enough to install it and maintain the required strength but I could be wrong. My Tembo riser is pretty narrow.

That would be my assessment as well.  The risers are pretty thin.  Can be fairly thick back to belly -- 2 inches or more-- which is the direction of most of the stress/force in drawing and shooting.  Still don't believe I would try it though.

I don't think there is enough meat in the risers on Hill bows.Usally the bow bolt works better with a stronger riser like dymondwood or phoenlic.I wouldn't do it to one of my Hills.

repeat of all of the above...  There's a reason Craig uses the sleeve system rather than one that weakens the riser.

It would be impossible for me to even considder putting a sharp saw next to my Hill Bow,, let alone cut it in half,,,

Id just have to buy another,,

Beacuse all my Bows have to be take down,, ( beacuse i live in the UK ) i figured that if i buy a bow blank with a take down system, im looking at the same price as a finnish one piece bow,, so the next Hill i order will be a blank,, take down,, and for about $500 to get a ~Hill Take down ,, just meens i got to cut back on the beers for a few months and iv got one,,, pluss i love doing a little work on my bows,, so when o shoot the bows,, i now iv put more hart in to this bow,  :)
