Firewood Walnut Hunter

In light of the recent thread on where to find handle material, I would like to post this one!
This is another piece of Walnut that I salvaged from a demise of doom in the fireplace!
While splitting some firewood to sell two years ago, a friend of mine discovered a piece that had some strage "goin's on" inside it!
So, I cut it into blocks and dried them in the ceiling of my shop for two years and then sent to K and G to be stabilized.
My customer chose this one for his 5160 hunter to use in Colorado where he lives.
Hot blued guard and finial in a take-down assembly.
I just keep wishing I had a truck load of that walnut!

No - just those that require/benefit from it.
If I have wood that will benefit from the stabilizing process - it gets it.
I don't stabilize Desert Ironwood, African Blackwood or Ebony.
There are others that do not benefit from it, but I probably don't use them.
I don't stabilize curly maple if it's going to receive wire inlay, but then it gets a deep soaking gun-stock finish after being stained.
Stabilized wood does not receive stain well.
I do have some stabilized curly maple that I will be using soon!
