New Arrows and new string
« on: January 25, 2008, 09:08:00 AM »
Yesterday I purchased a couple of 2114's for my Quillian patriot 55#,s at 28 in. I went into the backyard and started shooting bareshafts full length with a 145 grain point. The nock ends were kicking bad to the left ( I am right handed ) so I started cutting the shafts down to stiffen the spine and they started flying straight. By the time I got them cut down to fly straight I only have about an inch in front of the bow.

Problem #1 These arrows only weigh 486 grains total and I would like to shoot at least 525 but if I add more point weight they will be underspined. Is there any way to add weight some where besides the point.

Problem #2 This problem may make porblem #1 not a problem any more. I have ordered a Fastflite string for this bow and the one I am shooting now is dacron will I need to add spine for the Fastflite string.

I guess what I am asking is will I be able to make this arrow work or do I need to just scrap it right now and try something with a little stiffer spine.

Thanks

You are most likely going to need to increase your spine going to FF string.A 2018 has a stiffer spine then a 2114 and will give you the physical weight you are looking for.A 2018 has a spine of .464 compared to a 2114 has a spine of .510.My 2018's with 125 gr. point 29" BOP weigh around 525-530 grs. plus a 2018 is alittle tougher then the thinner walled 2114.

What about a 2315 acording to the charts this falls into my spine range but will the bigger outside diameter cause problems getting it to shoot off the shelf.

Just build out the sideplate of the bow about a 1/16" at a time and try the same arrows with a heavier point.
Don't forget you can tune the bow to the arrows by changing the amount of centershot. It's alot cheaper than buying new arrows and you can still get perfect flight.
