What to do?
« on: January 25, 2008, 04:46:00 PM »
I need a bow that has a little lower draw weight to practice with and get my form back.  I have 3 options on the table now and am not sure if I should pursue any of them or wait a little longer for something else.  I am relatively confident that you guys will be able to provide some opinions and advice.

Option #1 - Ben Pearson Hunter 45#@28" $100
Option #2 - PSE Impala w/30 Arrows through it 45# $150
Option #3 - Maddog bamboo backed longbow 45# @ 30" $215 including shipping.

I am assuming the PSE weight is at 30" but I don't know that for a fact, maybe some of you will. I am not sure how you all would recommend measuring my draw length but from where I am used to anchoring to the front of my fist with my arm stretched out is 31.5".

What do you all think?

Thank you for your time,
Chris

Hey there,

I only have the most humble of opinions where this shooting thing is concerned, but here goes.  You didnt say the lengths on the bows.  At your LONG draw length perhaps consider the longest of the 3 bows as your choice.  For working on your form and practice the longer length is more forgiving, less finger pinch and less chance the model bow will stack on you.  Now I said Chance all bows will stack after a certain draw length.

Hope this helps,

You did not mention what kind of bow you are currently shooting. I would suggest that you find a bow that has a similar grip design as your goto bow.

That might create a problem.  The bow I currently have is a Black Widow MAII.  I couldn't tell what style grip it is (I am guessing it is their standard grip) but if it is proprietary to them I know I can't afford another widow or limbs.

How do I know about the grip?

If it were me I would do my best to save little more and get another set of Widow limbs. You could talk to the guys at Widow and find out what length and weight limbs you need to get what you want at 30 inches. You could post an add on the Widow Wall. You should be able to get a set of used limbs around $300.
