Penetration on Shoulder Blade (pix)
« on: January 25, 2008, 06:06:00 PM »
Butched up another deer and saved both shoulder blades to play around with.  Was curious what type of penetration I would get.

I shoot a very low poundage bow and was curious what my new cedar/snuffer combo would do to the shoulder blade.  I went through one and partially through the other.  If I can manage to get another deer I'll try it out with my 2016s as well.

I'm only drawing 42lbs.

Here are a few pics.

My brother also blew right through both of them and the 3D target just stopped it in time with his compound when shooting the thin portion he draws 52lbs.

I blew through the thickest portion of both blades with my compound and I only draw 63lbs.  Sorry no pics of that was to cold and camera wasn't working properly.

Hmmm Interesting test, Thanks for doing that, good pics too any idea how much your wood arrows weigh tipped?I'm wondering if the mass of your Mckenzie directly behind the bones prevented the rest of the penetration from happening..

They are 575 grains...I was curious as well but I dont think I would have gotten a true pass through if there was no backstop.  I figure with the meat and hide of a deer I would get roughly the same.

Do you think you can try that with a heavy two-blade?

How did the tip of the snuffer fair after impact?

Not a single mark still the same as when it came out of the package.

If I can get another set I will try it.  Those were already compramised and didn't want to have a false read.  My aluminums come in at 475 grains i believe and I use 2blade stingers or magnus.  If I can get another set I'll give them a go and I'll try the glue on sasquatches I have floating around.
