Bill Moran Nat Geo Spetember 1986
« on: October 28, 2009, 08:42:00 AM »
I was looking through some old National Geographic magazines the other night and was reading an article about meteorites and came across this little blurb about Bill Moran. Thought it was pretty interesting and decided to share it.

Good find Skullie,  I met Mr. Moran before he passed!  His shop is about a 20 min. drive from me!

I just joined the "William F. Moran, Jr. Museum & Foundation, INC." A worthy cause.

If any one is interested in becoming a member just email me and I will provide information and a Point of Contact.

Thanks for posting!

Steve

Steve,
I used to stop into Bill's shop in year's past. I had no idea he had died.  What an interesting man and craftsman!  I have a copy of his Book.
When did he pass away?

Mr Moran died in February, I believe, of 06. A real gentleman and some may not know, but he was a trad shooter. I had the priviledge of meeting and getting to know him before he passed away. Lin

great photo, Lin! That's a HAWG SHOOTER by your side I see.

You better bring him when you come so you can take some meat home with you!   :bigsmyl:

Lin, Thanks for the update.....yes, he was always the gentleman.  I met him in 1964 when I was working part time at the Maryland Gun Exchange in Frederick, MD.  He used to come in and show us knives he had made or was working on.
At that time they were relatively crude compared to the ones he made in later years.  I guess I stopped by his shop two or three times over the years, the last time probably in the mid '90's.
He would always take the time to talk with me and show me his latest project.  I saw one of Sylvester Stallone's knives before he did...a beautiful piece of work similar to his Rambo knife.  It's hard for me to believe that he's not still standing by his forge and anvil....
Thanks
Tom I.
