That is the reason I like my Hills so much, they are extremely quiet. I have a bob Lee 54" hunter recurve and compared to my Hills it is loud , especially if I'm shooting out of my blind. My Lee came with a DVD and in it they say not to put anything under the string in the grooves, they stat that they are there for a reason. Lee recommends that you dip the string ends in lacquer thinner to help with the slap. I don't feel that all the sound can be eliminated no matter what you do, a person will have to just live with it or shoot a longbow, some of those are kind of loud also.

but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.

wow, thanks for all the replies and recommendations.  I think I'll try the bow hush route next.  if that doesnt work, I'm just gonna have to come to grips that I'm a longbow guy and practice with only my longbow.  take care everyone

If you want to PM me and catch me when I am in Conway, I think we can get it much quieter.
I had the same issue with recurves and also the BL.
I am in Conway this weekend and I am just about to go hunting/exploring/stump shooting.

I think he likes the Bowhush...
I had a set and we wrapped his string up... sounded good to me.

Yep, thanks a whole bunch Billy!  Well folks if you're kinda new to this site or have not yet met people from Tradgang, that's about how it goes.  I met Billy today for the first time in my life, shot a little and talked a little with him, he gave me some Bowhush to try on my bow, helped me out putting it on, and refused to take my money when I offered.  Great guy like the rest of the folks on here.  thanks again Billy keep shootin straight!

I have found that four cat whiskers work the best for me - at the 1/3 and at the 1/4.

I used to use the bow hush or heavy yarn but with the wiskers they are not needed.

I have found that the longbow will always be a touch quieter than the recurve.

Just took a couple dozen shots in the back yard with the Bob Lee recurve sporting its new bow hush and the Caddo longbow.  I'll have to say, the recurve is now about as quiet as I've wanted it to be in my mind.  another Bowhush convert has been born.  Thanks again Billy!!  I owe you a big one bud!

I did like Jedi and used the sticky back fleece except I was able to get it at the local archery shop in a camo. Sometimes I think mines pretty loud until someone else shoots it and Im at a distance..not really as bad as it seems

Bows often sound a lot louder to you when you are shooting it by yourself.  I had my new Rose Oak all set up with Bow Hush and Hush Puppies and I still thought it was too loud.  Took it to a local trad shop and had a few guys that were there listen while I shot. They looked at me like "you gotta be kidding" it hardly makes a sound.  I brought it back home and compared it to my Fox High Seirra which is whisper quiet and it was definitly louder. Still not satisfied. I swapped out the fast flight string for a B50 and bingo!- almost silent. My point is, there are a lot of different things that can make your bow loud and a lot of different fixes.  What's loud is to one person may not be to another.
