5160 Cutting Bowie
« on: November 14, 2009, 12:06:00 PM »
Finished 3 Bowies this week,  this one being the last.  Nothing elaborate, my basic 10 x 2 Cutting Bowie Blade, with a slightly different handle (for me),  kind of my version of Fisks "Rojo" handle.

Forged from a BIG 3/8" truck spring (from Uncle Al years ago), blade is 5160 differentially heat treated, convex edge sharp clip.   Handle was going to be Curly Maple, but as I was grinding the maple I found an area of grey "spalt" within the core,  so had to knock that handle off and use this Claro Walnut from Dan Toelke.

Still have a bit of finsih work to do on it,  been cutting before these pics were taken,  handle will need a few more coats over the weekend.

any how,  just a few pics-

I'm diggin' that one too, Matt.
When you're in the mood to knock some of my 1" stuff down, give me a jingle.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

:bigsmyl:    :notworthy:  your teasing me with these big knifes aren't ya? My wife hid the check book, the savings book and our penny jar after she caught me emailing you a while back. That is a beauty! Trade her sister for it??

HI Karl,  is your 1" round or square bar?   I like 5160 but like working it from either 3/8" or bigger bars like what you have,  long story.

Vic,  no need to trade your wifes sister,  just come up with a cool bow I may be interested in!
