Az or N Mex javies

It is a long way off, but I am looking to hunt javelina in spring of 09. I'm trying to decide between Arizona and New Mexico, and it appears that Arizona has lots more permits, but shorter seasons than New Mexico. Any suggestions/preferences from those of you who have hunted the desert pigs? I recently camped in the Roosevelt Lake area in Az., and saw lots of javies; anybody hunted the Tonto NF in that area?

Actually I have Hunted the Tonto in that area but for deer. I have hunted Javies down around Nogales in the Santa Ritas and saw a lot of Javies while deer hunting on the New Mexico Border-I 'll have to look at a map to give any details-It was the absolute middle of nothing. Frankly, the best deal on Javelina is Texas.... but on private land so you have to pay. However if you can spend 400-600 dollars you can get a guided hunt, almost certainly see animals and have no worries abnout drawing a tag-over the counter and simple.

I've hunted javies on the San Carlos reservation in AZ twice and shot one. We went 2 years ago and saw nothing but it was a dry year. If I did it again I'd go to TX for a jav/hog combo hunt. Mike
