jigged handles
« on: January 03, 2010, 10:02:00 AM »
Has anyone ever made their own jigged handles? I picked up a small piece of delrin and thought I would jig it to finish off a small skinner. I really don't know where to start but I do know how I would like it to end up. Guess I'm just look'in to do something different. Thanks in advance! Jon

A milling machine would be the ticket.
But if you don't have one of those, maybe you can use a drill press, so that the "jigs" are all the same depth and to give it some uniformity.
I have never tried it.  But would suggest only using a sharp ball bit, and go slow and easy.  Drill presses are not made to withstand side pressure, and may wear out bearings if you work it hard. Speed is anybody's guess, but my guess starts with high speed.

Thanks guys for responding. I have enough delrin to try both methods. Thumbs up on the sharp ball bit! I'll post pictures if it turns out anything like I want. Jon
