Question: Dan Winkler Antique Steel Finish?

Does anyone know how Winkler gets that antique brown finish on this blades?  tippit

Doc, I don't know about Winkler's.
But I have browned several blades and muzzleloaders using Laurel Mountain Forge Browning and Degreasing solution, at least that is what I think it's called.  If that is what you are looking for, you'll find it at muzzleloading supply places, or you can do an on line search.
It works well.

If your looking for an aged look there are a couple of options to experment with.

1)Browning it with browning solution as mentioned above.You can then scrub it back if you want.

2)I've had good luck with cold blue and iodine.Clean the steel with any available solvent to remove all oils.Coat with instant gun blue and then coat with iodine.Let sit overnight in the morning you will have a black mess.Scrub back with steel wool for a nice aged appearance.

3)For a gray pitted look you can coat with instant gun blue and put in bleach.The bleach will pit the metal so keep an eye on it.
