1095 Tanto Hog Knife
« on: October 14, 2010, 09:05:00 AM »
Decided to try something different. This one is a Asian inspired tanto blade hog knife. The blade is 1095 carbon steel and 5-1/2" long. Oal is 10-3/4". Scales are ebony with a synthetic turquoise spacer against some bamboo that came from some flooring (Thanks Izzy!) with blue liners and 3/16" mosaic pins. The guard is nickel silver and has 1/8" mosaic pins holding it to give it a little different look.

Thanks for looking!

That looks "sticky"!
I like the mosaic pins in the guard - nice touch.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Clarence,

Good choice with the Asian theme - tanto blade and bamboo. I'm thinking of a different Tanto (Tonto - Jay Silverheels) when I look at the turquoise, although I guess Native Americans are thought to originally have come from Asia. I like the mosaic pins in the guard too, along with everything else you did with the knife.

I did debat over that but it provided a nice contrast. I have some that is more like jade. I might use that on the next one...which will be damascus.   :D

Nice package!  I bet a plainer version of that with micarta scales would be popular with the military folks.
