WHAT IS A GOOD EPOXY FOR GLUEING ON MY SCALES?
« on: November 21, 2010, 06:54:00 PM »
IM GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE I NEED TO GET MY EPOXY THAT I WANNA USE. WHAT IS A GOOD ONE FELLAS?  ANOTHER QUICK QUESTION I HAVE WOOD THAT I MADE MY SCALES FROM BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. ITS REALLY DENCE AND HARD, PRETTY STRAIGHT GRAIN AND HAS A DARK REDISH BROWN COLOR.  HAVE ANY IDEAS WHAT IT MIGHT BE?

Devcon 2 ton is good as well as a couple others. THe fast curing times are not the best. I use the 2 hour cure. West System and Rakka are also good.

I have no answer on the wood.

ANY IDEA OF ANY WEBSITE TO LOOK AT TO SEE WHAT WOOD IT IS.  I WOULD POST A PICTURE BUT I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO RESIZE MY PICTURES.  AND WILL A HARDWARE STORE CARRY THESE EPOXYS OR WILL I HAVE TO ORDER THEM FROM SOMEWHERE?

True Value carries Devcon around here. The others you probably have to look them up and order on the internet.

my blade is polished to a 600 grit and is looking pretty good i kinda want to put hash marks on the spine for thumb but im not sure how to go about that.  so ill probaly just leave it alone.  should i put any kind of a edge on the blade or just leave it sqaured off for quenching and tempering?

For your "hash marks" on the spine, you just use files (chain saw, triangular, needle, etc.).  If your blade isn't hardened yet, you can still file the grooves on it.  Check out youtube, it has some tutorials where you can see folks filing in patterns, as well.  Some of the experienced guys here can probably help you out, too.

lowes carries devcon too it works great! Used it today on a knife that's headin to Dannybows  :)  don't waste your money on the loctite epoxy I have had no luck and it doesn't harden properly.
