an elk handled 'longhunter' with mokume bolster
« on: January 05, 2011, 08:54:00 PM »
Here is one in which I made up the bolster material.  I took some thick copper braid and stuffed it into a 1" square mild steel tube and filled in the space with 1084 powder and threw it into the forge, hammered it flat and cut it out.  I honestly had no idea what would happen.  I guess you might call it 'interesting'.  Next time I will try to twist and fold and make a true mokume gane.

The base is made from drift wood and micaceous clay (donated to me by a Tradganger) mixed with ash and wool fibers and baked onto the wood. The stand is just some forged copper.
