Shipping an anvil
« on: February 03, 2011, 05:12:00 PM »
I found the anvil I have been looking for! The only problem I am 900 miles away from home working. My question is has anybody on here ever had an anvil shipped to them and how did you arrange the shipping? Thanks

I suggest that you let us know the area it's in in case some our TG friends might be coming your way. Bow shoots and knife shows happen a lot. If it knocks of a few hundred miles, you might can pick it up closer.

To answer your question, I had an outfit near me ship a power hammer to Hawaii. It cost about a dollar a pound just to ship, but it was pretty awkward to handle. Come to think of it, let me know in a p-mail, if you like, and I'll see if my friends company has a drop near there.

Thanks Lin. The anvil is in Lexington VA and I live in Andover KS. It is a 250+ Wright anvil. Other than a little wear it is in fantastic shape. I am going to contact the seller when I get back home.

If you have to ship it,  have the seller attach it to a small pallet, securely, it can then be shipped via truck for about 150-200 dollars.

I just had a 450 lb.  electric motor shipped from Ohio to Alabama for under $200.

I'd go with Matt's suggestion. That's not bad.

Matt, I will check into that. It will fit in my carry on but I dont think the overhead compartment will handle it.   :)
