??help ID forging hammer-Metal hatchet-??

Got these items in Detriot this weekend.The hatchet is all metal-- handle is hollow..The hammer is maybe a old forging hammer.Any info would be appreciated.Id on the hammer is Iron city stamped inside a 6 point star.1/2

That's not a hammer.  It's the top half of a round swage.  The bottom half sits in the hardy hole of the anvil and you hold that top half while you strike it with a hammer, or you can use it with a swage block.  
Iron City made blacksmith tools from 1850's through 1958 in Pittsburg, PA.
