New sheaths and knives
« on: September 14, 2011, 10:59:00 AM »
Here are some Sheaths I built around Terry Knipshield custom knives. Terry just joined TG so I hope he chimes in. All knives are out of CPM154CM high carbon stainless with Micarta scales. The sheaths are all Herman Oak leather of the cross draw style friction fit right hand. I sticth all my sheaths at 8 sticthes per inch. These are all stock knives.

This is the headliner! A Loveless style semi skiner. Tappered tang ,green micarta scales with red liners. Nickle bolsters that are soldered. It is 8" OAL. Sheath is tooled snake skin in cognac.

This is the every day carry straight back. Black micarta handles. This is the tooled snake sknin pattern sheath in chestnut and cognac. 7 1/4" AOL.

This is a cool little package. This is the knife I use in my arm guard it is 4 7/8" OAL. This was a test when you make something this small the tolerence relly tightens up. It is a mini basket stamp in cognac. Scales are green and burgandy micarta. Hope you injoy.

All are sweet, good work on the knives and good work on the sheaths

Those are very nice.  I love the last one, especially.  How do you finish the edge of the sheath to get it so smooth?  I'm making a couple for the knives I'm doing for my brothers and would love to get the edges smooth.

Thanks,
Rusty

Rusty,
Its not that complicated but it is if that makes any sense. You first need some edgers to round the edge. We then do what is called burnishing. You wet the edge, saddle soap it and rub it with canvas. They then get dyed and waxed.

Very good workmanship on those pieces!  I particularly like the last one.  You build a fine sheath, sir!
