Lil folded steel necker(Better pics added)
« on: May 24, 2012, 08:48:00 AM »
Still needs some finish on the handle scales and an edge put on it but I am pleased.  I think this one will get a kydex sheath.
15n20 and 1080 with??? handle slabs(any guesses) and welding rod for pins.
Tang is a little fat but I should be able to start correcting that ongoing issue with the new grinder.

Love it!

Thanks Kevin - I have a box of different bits and pieces of exotic wood that I have collected over the years and this little piece finally found a home.

It is definitely equatorial or sub tropical hard wood.  It sands red/brown and has that "smell" of jungle wood like so many do.

Nice knife Bobby,
Looks like kingwood or pau ferro wood to me.

OK this may help ID the handle.  here is it's mate and I may have picked this piece up at Jonhson's(Chuck or anyone in Michigan will know who they are) or it may have come from Steve Turay or?  It is not as dense and an equal sized piece of Zircote and has some wax on the end which I did not put there and why I think it came from Johnson's.  It has some tiny pores you can see?  I know one of you bow/knife makers - wood experts will ID it?
Also may help now that I have some finish on the knife.  Just need to make a sheath.

Thanks Chuck - those tiny pieces come cheap.  It is the big stuff that you need for risers and lam grinds that are costly.  BTW - if you have any drops too small to use of anything pretty let me know.  I will buy them or maybe we can barter for something??

Have a great holiday weekend everyone

That looks like a very usable, real world knife.
