Ironwood axe. Yep another axe.
« on: September 02, 2013, 11:20:00 PM »
This was a custom ordered axe, and the customer wanted a Desert Ironwood handle. I was able to acquire this big beautiful piece and am pretty happy with how the whole thing came together. The steel is 3/8" 4140 and the OAL is 16".
Let me know what you think.

That looks great. The iron wood looks good with that grind & finish.
I also like the old triumph trap, got a few of those in my collection.

Very nice. The sheath also looks good.

I love it.

I think that's my favorite one yet.       Just a thought, but have you considered putting bolsters on these?  I'm thinking that about a 2"-3" long polished SS bolster at the top of the ironwood handle would give some nice contrast.  Then again it might create some unwanted glare if you carried it while hunting or fighting terrorists.    ;)

I REALLY like this piece, especially that way you've modified the head profile.  I'll say it again, but you got scary good at this "hobby" in a frighteningly short amount of time.  I really like your style and clean execution.  For what it's worth, is there a way you could add quassi-hammer poll to the back?  Not sure it's even possible, but it would be even harder to resist ordering one of these if it had a hammering surface.    :knothead:

Thanks Curt. I have one without the spike waiting to be finished out to spec, just let me know. ; )
At 3/8" thick, it would work fine for tent stakes or for anything that needs hammered.
