My Dads Fathers Day Present...
« on: May 19, 2014, 03:40:00 PM »
My ol' Dad of course is my biggest fan by far and I'm a little ashamed I haven't ever made him a knife before.

He loves elk antler for scales and the blued L6 carbon steel is his favorite. He wanted a knife heavy enough for camp duty but small enough for game processing.

It's off the same blank the St. Jude rasp knife is with a few minor differences like a little narrower yet longer blade. He is also an old school boy scout pyro like a lot of us and thinks the advent of the farro rod is the greatest thing since gasoline for starting fires.

My leather work still has a ways to go but I'm loving the adventure. It's not horrible but it's a long ways from Roughcountry's beautiful work. I've taken a lot of tips given to me from this forum and have applied most of them as they are great tips. I also put the sewing awl up and started hand stitching and I really like the improvement.

Happy hunting and thanks for looking,

Todd

I'm betting your Dad is gonna like that package.
I like the way you recessed the sheath for the scales. Should stop movement of the blade in the sheath.
Nice job on both. RS
