My Latest Project: Bird & Trout Knife

I have been wanting to make a bird and trout knife for some time and I finally got one finished up. There are not too many trout around here so it might turn into a bird and bass knife. Come to think of it, this should be called the turkey and bass knife since I haven't been doing much duck or goose hunting but I might just have to go shoot a few to see how this knife works. It sliced my finger open pretty good when I was taking the tape off the blade so it shouldn't have any problem filleting a goose breast. This knife is from 1/8" thick 1095. I wasn't sure what thickness to use on a knife like this but settled on 1/8". Its thin enough to do fine cutting work yet thick enough to handle tougher jobs. Also, this was the thinnest steel I had sitting around so it's ultimately what I used. I etched the blade giving it a nice dark patina and the handle is amber dyed stag. This knife has a 3 1/2" blade and is 7 1/2" overall. I am very happy with how this knife turned out but in the end, I wish I would have put the blade number on the other side of the blade, it just looks to busy and cluttered on that side, guess I will know on the next one. Thanks for looking.

I have a feeling that you will go far in the knife world if thats your wish. You make some mighty classy looking knives. Nothing too fancy, just right with good taste. Congrats on another fine piece.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Izzy, I appreciate the compliments. I still have a long way to go to get half as good as some on here but it's something I enjoy and when I can't be out in the woods, this keeps me busy.
