Grandpas old tools Repurposed (More added)

I have always liked Rasp knives and have one from a young man that rides saddle broncs and makes knives to support that habit.

My Grandpa recently passed away and I ended up with some of his old shoeing rasps hoping to have one of you handy folks grind a blade or two. Having dabbled some I know that there are some here way more capable than I. However I widdled one out this weekend on my own and figured I would post it here and get some much needed feedback from you all.

It looks like you got it under control Randy. Just keep it cool while you're grinding and get the edge pretty thin for better slicing. Good job.

I don't think you need anyone else to grind out your blades...looking good!  That should skin just about anything

Bare Bone blades are all I carry in my fanny  pack...easy to clean and no extra bulk.

I'm intrigued. How do you go about shaping those? Seems like an awful lot of very hard steel to cut away. Really like them and would love to try.

I recently received a  couple hoof rasps from my cousin. .... planning on doing the same thing!
I will be following this.....

I've seen short knives built that didn't need tempered. .... are you worried about yours being brittle?
