Cable damascus
« on: April 15, 2016, 08:24:00 PM »
I made this little blade from a piece of cable I picked up from my hunting land. Some research and trial & error later I ended up with a good blade. Hope you like it.

That looks pretty cool. Did it harden OK? some cable is a bit low in carbon to make a good blade, but some is pretty fair.

Actually it hardened to the point of being brittle. After some testing I settled on a water quench and then temper at 350 for one hour. I have no idea what the actual steel in this cable is, but I'm really impressed with it once I figured out the best process for it. Or at least the best one I've found.

That's really cool. I like to use cable in a San Mai around 1080 or 15n20 to get the look w a known steel edge but I have made some very good knives of solid rope.  Nice work
