Bowie question

What is the average width of a Bowie blade? I've searched the net and can't up with an answer. I'm attempting my first one and the blade just doesn't look wide enough to me, but maybe I'm just imagining it. I figure one of you guys can give me some guidance.

What makes a Bowie a Bowie is a much debated question, much less the measurements and shape.

I would say what ever pleases you and looks right to you.
