Black walnut & Red elm bow
« on: August 20, 2008, 12:45:00 PM »
Well I was working on a friends bow and the Postal person dropped off a box from KennyM. Yes I ordered a slate from Kenny. It's a Black Walnut.
.625" Thick X 2.5" wide X 68" long and a piece of red elm for the handle area.

My lay out I was thinking would be at first a Modoc bow
56" n2n
2.5" at the widest (fades)
1" wide X 4" long handle
.75" thick at the center of handle
.75"  at tips

looking to get 50#@24" Here is a pic of the 2 pieces of wood.

Black Walnut ( sorry for the bad pic )

Red Elm handle wood

I'll be backing it with linen, with a tru-oil finish

Thanx again Kenny, great looking wood.

I want to hear from others before I start laying it out.

lol... OK, BUt thinking about it a Modoc might not work since the slate is thinner then .75" and I don't want to brake it. So now I'm thinking of doing either  a 54" pyramid or a 64" pyramid style.

Sal, what did you decide? You still think slat is to thin for Modoc? I know you are probably working on something..or just being lazy like me?

I'm out of yown right now, But I'm thinking of doing a 60" pyramid bow. I really like the pyramid style bows. I'll be working on bows when I get home on Wednesday.
