shaping fadeouts

I am new to bow building. I have built one fiberglass longbow R/D longbow from the bingham plans. It turned out pretty good for a first attempt. The only problems that I really had where shaping the fadeouts. I am trying to build a second bow from a form that I designed myself, I wanted to build one with some curve in the riser. I just ruined the riser ( messed up the fadeouts).   :(   Tell me how you cut and shape fadeouts. I cut them out with the bandsaw and try to sand down to the line with a sanding drum on a drill press. Is there any special tricks to it or does it just take practice and patience? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hey bryant i had the same prob what i did is practiced on scrap wood till i got better at it and i find it helps have a scrap board behind the riser that is longer then the fadouts so u can get the end of the fadout paper thin but im no pro though just what ive learned on my own hope it helps u out good luck

Problem with power tools is they can also create problems faster than hand tools, so as twisted suggests get lots of practice on materials that are similar to what you intend to use later.
