So, how would you....
« on: October 15, 2008, 03:21:00 PM »
...get started into bow building? I've had some interest in it for a while, but I have NO idea where to even begin.  :)   :help:
Is it easier to start with a blank? Or from scratch?

Thanks guys!

Blank would be easiest to start, but go slow in the tillering process be a shame to ruin a good blank.  You might get more out of doing a stave though.  It's up to you.

Well, this is a great place to start. What kind of bow are you interested in building? Selfbow from a stave? Laminated fiberglass? Or any of the variations in between?

I would get you'r self a copy of at least the first Traditional Bible book and a copy of the Bent Stick and read all you can. You can always start with a board, that way if you break it you'r not out much money.

Have fun !

I'd really like to do a laminated recurve, unless that's starting on the hard end of things.  :)
I looked at Bingham's stuff and it looks like a good place to start.
What do ya'll think?
Thanks

Bingham is a good place to start. They have all the materials you will need, blue prints for design and very helpful folks working there. They have been making lam bows and supplying materials for many, many years.     Pat

Also check out some of Hera's buildalong's. He does amazing work using mostly hand tools. Here's his latest:
