re-tiller question
« on: February 04, 2008, 09:13:00 PM »
A couple of months ago I made a red oak bow, my first, that is 67" and pulled right around 50#.  I have shot it about 2000 times and have been very happy with it but tonight I noticed one limb had developed a hing.  I re-tillered it to get everything evened up and it shoots fine but lost 5-6 pounds in the effort. Are there any concerns about retillering after this many shots?  Thanks, Gary

No problem. My personal bow was initially 65@25. I made it 4 or 5 year ago and have dropped the poundage a little 3 separate times since I first made it. My bow making skills have progressed over the years as well and I have made little tillering changes and narrowed the tips quite a bit as well. All these changes have made my bow better.

My concern would be why it hindged, if it crysled in the hindge area, re-tillering won't help, it will hindge again or possibly just fold up. I'd get busy on my second if I were you.
