Recurve Building "How To" Resource?
« on: November 07, 2008, 03:25:00 PM »
Gentlemen,
I got the Bingham recurve building kit, figuring it would be a good beginners project and a resource of "How To" building information. Unfortunately, there's little information in the kit dealing with:

- design concepts
- limb design
- lamination types & sizes for various bow weights,
-  etc...

As a "builder", I enjoy understanding concepts and applying them during a new project adventure, rather than just following the "build it step by step" per illustrated instructions method.

I would like recommendations for a comprehensive recurve building book(s) that delves into greater How To's, details, limb/riser design, construction theories, etc....

Any suggestions?

I'm chomping on the bit to start reading!

If you want some deep down, in the weeds bow building theory, concept, design, and science?  Can only be one book that I know that would fill that bill and thats Jack Harrisons book.  "Traditional Bowyer, More Unneccesary Fun"

You can find it on sale at  http://www.bowyersjournal.com/page2.html   I would try to contact Brian or Tom (the new owner)before placing an order just to make sure they are ready for merchandise sales since the Bowyers Journal just changed ownership.

Thank you Tim, really appreciate the recommendation.  I'll check it out right now.  I'm chomping at the bit to start learning.

Zano- in the back of Bingham's catalog is charts showing bow weight according to lam diamiter. (Pg.19 Cat. 34) His design is for easy to build bows for the beginers. Tims advice is top dollar. Biff

Thanks Biff.  You're right, but I'm thirsty for more information to help me when I "personalize" my next bow, and the next, and the next.   ;)
