My wife and I have a family joke line that refers to any example of being dumb as a "chainsaw moment"... from the old joke about the guy who rents a chainsaw and brings it back saying it's too hard to use. The rental agent yanks the cord and it starts right up and the guy says, "What's that noise?"
Well, I had a chainsaw moment this morning. A year or so ago I purchased the complete package of plans, blueprints, instructions and four part DVD from Binghams. I don't really know now why I ignored it, I guess because it was pretty overwhelming for where I was at the time and I just filed it away on the shelf with all of my other archery books and videos.
Now that I'm getting really interested in bow building and I've been watching other stuff I've picked up, and asking questions on-line, I finally remembered that it was there and today I fixed a big triple cup of coffee, loaded up my pipe and sat down to watch the Bingham DVD.
Well, duh! Chainsaw moment... That DVD is fabulous and would answer roughly 98% of all the questions you could come up with in getting started. I plan to watch it several more times.
I don't regret any of the other resources I've gotten, and I'll happily grab any others I find, but, if, like me, you're just getting into this thing, get the DVD... Heck, get the whole package... full size plans for longbows and recurves, instructions... all in all, a real resource and I wish I'd taken the time to watch it and not forgotten that it was there.
