Tracking dog

I have decided to try a rat terrier for tracking wounded deer. Does anyone know of someone in N.Y. or Pa that breeds hunting dogs. AKC dogs are way out of my price range. I see them down south for reasonable prices but VA or KY is a long way to travel.

You certainly don;t need AKC papers to get a dog that will follow scent.
Just a modicum of training should teach any mixed breed what he/she is looking for (bar the 'toy' breeds)

Black lab worked for me. Kirby was his name. passed about 3 months ago. We used to pick up the road kills in S.E. Wis. and he could find them with out a blood trail when they would run off into a field or woods. Helped me find coyote's too, miss that dog alot.
