field points for homemade arrows
« on: January 22, 2009, 10:25:00 AM »
Guys, I posted these a few days ago on PowWow but got no replies so I thought I'd post them here. If this is the wrong thread, feel free to delete them.    Pat

I got these from my friend Kenneth and used them this past year for target and 3D shoots. They are very strong and work well with homemade arrows. The point for the sourwood shoot is 1/16" steel cut to shape with an indentation for a wrap to help secure it. A slot is cut into the shaft like for a trade point, the point is glued in and the wood shaped to the steel then a wrap is added for extra strength.
The point for cane is a standard 16d nail with a blob of brass brazed to it and shaped into a cone with a drill and file. The nail is glued into the center hole in the cane(I used TBIII) and a wrap is added just behind the point to strengthen the cane.

Give them a try. They work very well.

Thanks guys. My friend Kenneth deserves the credit. All I did was use them.  The nail point works very well in a cane shaft. If the hole it too small heat up the nail to red(or another one) and push it in. If the hole is too big just fill it with something and drill out for the nail. They are very sturdy and can take lots of abuse.
