Backing and R/D question
« on: February 02, 2009, 04:15:00 PM »
Watched a video on ouTube of a guy backing and using a R/D jig on a bow.  He wrapped the bow and backing with what looked like plastic wrap when he glued it up, then he clamped it into the jig with 4 or 5 clamps.  Anyone ever tried this?  I have made several selfbows, wanting to try a backed one now.  Is there a best way to wrap or clamp the backing then put the whole thing in a jig to induce the reflex/deflex in the bow?

Saw that one also. Haven't tried the plastic wrap but have made many with the clamp method.
Dean Torges's video on bamboo backed bows is an excellent reference on backed bows using the clamp method.
Like to hear your results if you try the plastic. It's alot faster than 30 clamps and if the glue lines are good does the same job.
