Building a New Form...
« on: February 22, 2009, 03:25:00 PM »
I decided that for my second bow, I wanted to work off of a form that I made myself, for the experience.  Since I have a form that can work for either a deflexed or reflexed longbow, I decided to go for a dead flat form, something new to try.  That should be super easy, right?   Well, not if you over-engineer a project like I'm prone to do.

It's turned into quite a project, based on the use of aluminum channel and overhead clamps.  As always, for my own records, I've web paged the work, which is almost done, on my site.  When finished it will provide two form surfaces... one for 2" glass for my wide flatbows and one for 1 3/4" glass for Hill styles.  Here's a pic.

For anyone who wants to see the whole process of how to build an easy form the hard way, here's a link to the whole job:

I just updated my page on building my new form... I did some more work today, making the riser clamps, and I posted some pix of them in action, forming the fades and locking the riser in position... on a roughed out pine riser, but hey, if you can imagine a foam animal as a live target, you can see a "real" bow on the form  :>)
