Wood characteristics?

Is there a website or written guide that outlines what woods are good for what uses (tension or compression)?
I have been thinking of trying some different combination's but I would like to know what woods are better in which position.

Only thing I can think of is TBB vol 4 has a good chapter on different woods.

Thanks guys, I have TBB4 which is what made me interested in finding more detail about tension/compression woods. The websites are a wealth of info!
