Need some advice
« on: May 23, 2009, 11:32:00 PM »
I've been making bows for myself a few years now. I'm 5-9 and draw 26.5 inches. I like short bows so thats what I've been buildin. 52-56 inches I can do without any problems. I have obligated myself to make a bow for an archery club Im in as a give away for the club. It was suggested that I build the bow 60 inches 45#'s. Glued a couple up, hit the weight, but the bows just dont feel as "snappy" as my shorter bows. Smooth as can be, they just dont seem to have that "thunk" to them and a little hand shock. I need to counter the shock but Im not sure the direction I need to go. I think Im gonna build a form for a 64" bow also. The bows are both the same limb pretty much r/d

Both forms same result. Ones a foward handle, the other a more traditional style handle.
The risers are 16", .002 tapers
back glass,parallel, taper,parrallel, and bellyglass.

More taper? longer riser? Im leaning toward more taper, I dont think with the extra length Im getting enough bend toward the tips.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Whoever ends up with my bow I want them to be proud, right now I would'nt let one leave the shop!!>>>>-----> Greg

Here is the finished profiles of both the forms I have been using belly side,they will accomadate a bow up to 64".

Pick a spot.>>>>-------> Shoot straight.
