Here's some pics of the take-down arrow I promised on that thread...thought I'd start a new one for the m.

There's a precision shoulder cut into both ends and two different sized pieces of aluminum shafting fitted to them. The fit is friction-only and extremely tight. It takes a fair amount of pushing/pulling combined with twisting to assemble and disassemble these babies. Not sure which shaft sized they are, but I could mic them and figure it out if anyone has to know. The outer piece (orange) is a seamless fit to the diameter of the shaft. Overall these shafts are super high quality and well done. I didn't measure it, but it's supposed to be barrel tapered as well.

These were made by a real craftsman, great design also. Thanks for sharing the photos. Is the splice in the exact middle of the shaft?

I have finally gathered all the parts to create an all carbon three piece takedown, my first one should be done in a few days. I know they will not be as nice as these, I just hope they fly straight, and stay together.

Pretty close...the forward end (green end) is about 1" shorter than the rear.

Heh...my draw length is so short ye could put the arrow halves in a shaving kit!

Interested to know how these fly.

Also, I cannot imagine this kind of setup would be great when trying to pull em out of targets.

Those are pretty cool. Weren't there some arrows made quite a while back that screwed together? I want to say Fred Bear used them on a couple hunts, but not sure.

Excellant Rob !

In 05 I made up a similar set except I didn't have the inner just had a wood to alluminium fit . They flew great and even though they where not a precise set up like your arrows flew beaitifully and never had any issues pulling them from 3d targets

There is so much good stuff on Trad Gang my wife will ban me from it because all you people keep inspiring me to make new / differant / better gear than I have before

Anyone that uses a Smokey the Bear ruler cannot go wrong. Thanks for sharing your secrets - you inspired a lot of us to try this.

Looks like pieces of Gamegetters and the old Autumn Orange (I still wish Easton was making the Autumn Orange). Great job making those shafts!

thats awesome iv been looking forward to seein the pics! have you ever tryed to do it with carbon arrows? like putting and allluminium shaft along the insde of the carbon shaft? can it be done?

I'll measure them later tonight for you...

Just to avoid confusion, I did not make these particular shafts. I got them from a buddy who used to work for the 8th Dwarf when he had the Screaming Eagle store here in Missoula....a customer/supplier made them for him.

I am planning to try a carbon version...with a little performance twist that's TBA.

I could swear Paul marketed some that had a bungee cord in them also..for lion hunters I think was the way he sold them...

Ahh, crud...I just realized that I returned that shaft to Steve...I won't be able to do the measurements today for those that are interested.

I'm gonna check the shaft chart that's in the How-To forum and figure out which two sizes that this shaft is likely made with.

I have a mini lathe as well...I could probably be convinced to cut and square the proper aluminum pieces for someone if they wanted to try this. Let me think on my time/inclination on that one and I'll see if I can do it.

According to the chart, the outside shaft (autumn orange) is likely a 22 series shaft....my best guess being 2215. The inner shaft (GG green) is likely a 20 series, like a 2018 as that should provide a tight slide fit inside the 2215.

Additionally, the 22 series (2215 in this case) is closest to the 11/32" wood shaft size.
