need help with glues
« on: July 11, 2009, 12:44:00 PM »
Hi!

This is the place where I found very nice people first time when I needed help...I was going to learn how to make selfbows and ethan  - thanks again - sent me the TBB I, because I couldn't find it in Romania.

Now, I have a similar problem:
I want to make laminated bows, and I've found a solution for making fiberglass laminations. But I don't have any chance to find the right glue.

I was just wondering if somebody could tell me something about the specifications of an appropriate glue - the bicomponent epoxy one - which would help me to choose from hundreds of bicomponent epoxy adhesives in Romanian stores. Maybe I could use something to glue wood to wood, but I have no ideea about what to use to glue wood to fiberglass.

Thank you!

Constantin

you can down load the MSDS sheet for "Smooth On EA-40" it has what you are looking for. Go to the 3 Rivers website and find the "Smooth On  glue" there is a down loadable MSDS sheet. Here is the link.    http://www.3riversarchery.com/pdf/EA40_MSDS.pdf

Try your local paintshop. Maybe they have West System Epoxy. If they dont have it, send me a PM with your adress. I can send you glue for one bow for free.
Never believe that you are worthless .... you can always be used as a bad example!

You can also try these guys and see if they will ship to you.

I have been using their AreoMarine 400 and IMHO I think it is better than smooth on.

Thank you all, guys, for your willing to help.

Robertfishes, I followed your advice but, unfortunately, I couldn't find one single employee in the local stores here to be able to tell me what I should use instead Smooth On.

Kanga, thank you too, but they didn't answer my message regarding the shipping conditions and costs and I suppose that's not because I live in Romania.. :(

Moen, thank you very much too, but I think that due to my poor English I made a mistake and have been missunderstood. I intended to say that I want to buy that epoxy, not receiving it for free...

I've found the mail address of a store's representative in Romania for West Systems but I woud like to know if the following personal opinion is right or is just lack of information: they sell a quart kit A+B for 100 EURO. Isn't it a little expensive? Because, if this is the right price...I would accept your offer to send me the glue for a bow...maybe...sending you something in change. But, archery stuff is a rarity in Romania, so I only have 1/2 dozen crossbow bolts, which somebody bought for me to shoot bows  :) )  They are Carbon Extreme, new, because I don't have a crossbow, but I will look at the label in case you are interested and give you more details.
Anyway, I would like to try 2 or 3 shapes for a bow, one of them one piece recurve, because I've never made a laminated one and don't know which of them would fit me better.
But, one is better than none so, If you think I can give you something or send you the money for that glue I accept happily. Thanks again!
