Limb Tip Protectors
« on: February 08, 2008, 12:23:00 PM »
Seen a couple of pictures of bows with limb tip protectors on them.

Are these a store bought item or do you guys make them?

If they are made, have you any tips one making them.

Thanks for your time.

Some are Home made and some are store bought.
Some are leather and some are rubber....
Most of the suppliers up in the sponsor list have them....

I got nice leather ones from 3 Rivers. They are great for protecting the bottom tip, and hold the string in place so I can use a string keeper. Also, I don't have to dig for the string in the BowSock after pulling the bow out. Besides functionality, I like the little touch they add to a bow.

I just put a little stick on black felt on the lower limb tip.

I bought mine from Pine Hollow.  They are a sponsor here on TradGang.   They are good people to deal with.

Very easy to make.I made this one out of some buckskin to match the grip I made on my BBO with buckskin. One basic shape with one sidde having a little cut out for the string.......

Well I make mine, and I use the ends of fingers of old work gloves.  I don't know about you but I never wear through the pinky and ring fingers of my gloves, so I had a reasonable supply of them kicking around. And there was no sewign involvedjust a slice for the bowstring and I usually bind it on with dental floss around the string groove.

Try the tips off of old baby bottle nipples.  The skin colored ones.  They cover nicely and are easy to put on and take off.  And cheap.

You guys got some good ideas. Thought about the glove tip idea but couldn't figure out how to keep them on.

varmint, that bow looks good with the matching grip and tip protector, reckon I might try something like that.

I use the rubber ones as they are best at doing their job.  Leather looks good but really only protects against scratches as rubber will add bounce and protect from cracking/splitting in worst case scenerios.
