String groove jig!
« on: July 28, 2009, 07:51:00 AM »
I've always had a hard time marking string grooves evenly.  I racked my brain and came up with a jig that makes it a lot easier for me.  I started with a piece of 5/8" square oak stock.  I then cut two matching phenolic triangles.  Keeping everything lined up while drilling and securing with screws was a challenge.  I like to leave my tips a little wide for the first grooves.  I narrow my tips until this jig slides on just to my 1" mark.  Then I just make sure it's centered on the end before clamping.  Mark both sides and eyeball check for square marks.  Perfect every time!

nice, I will try to make one, will mark mine "to back" and put an arrow on it, as a tribute to an old bow building buddy who cut the nocks backwards once(that he addmitted to) and made a  LH bow for a customer who was righthanded...too much osage and yew saw dust I guess?
